There was a lady lived in a hallA
Large of her eyes and slim and tallA
And ever she sung from noon to noonB
Two red roses across the moonB
-
There was a knight came riding byC
In early spring when the roads were dryC
And he heard that lady sing at the noonB
Two red roses across the moonB
-
Yet none the more he stopp'd at allA
But he rode a gallop past the hallA
And left that lady singing at noonB
Two red roses across the moonB
-
Because forsooth the battle was setD
And the scarlet and blue had got to be metD
He rode on the spur till the next warm noonB
Two red roses across the moonB
-
But the battle was scatter'd from hill to hillE
From the windmill to the watermillE
And he said to himself as it near'd the noonB
Two red roses across the moonB
-
You scarce could see for the scarlet and blueE
A golden helm or a golden shoeE
So he cried as the fight grew thick at the noonB
Two red roses across the moonB
-
Verily then the gold bore throughE
The huddled spears of the scarlet and blueE
And they cried as they cut them down at the noonB
Two red roses across the moonB
-
I trow he stopp'd when he rode againF
By the hall though draggled sore with the rainG
And his lips were pinch'd to kiss at the noonB
Two red roses across the moonB
-
Under the may she stoop'd to the crownH
All was gold there was nothing of brownH
And the horns blew up in the hall at noonB
Two red roses across the moonB
