The Voice Of Toil Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGF HIAI EJEK LMNM GOGP AQMQ MHGH HRAR MHRH

I heard men saying Leave hope and prayingA
All days shall be as all have beenB
To day and to morrow bring fear and sorrowC
The never ending toil betweenD
-
When Earth was younger mid toil and hungerE
In hope we strove and our hands were strongF
Then great men led us with words they fed usG
And bade us right the earthly wrongF
-
Go read in story their deeds and gloryH
Their names amidst the nameless deadI
Turn then from lying to us slow dyingA
In that good world to which they ledI
-
Where fast and faster our iron masterE
The thing we made for ever drivesJ
Bids us grind treasure and fashion pleasureE
For other hopes and other livesK
-
Where home is a hovel and dull we grovelL
Forgetting that the world is fairM
Where no babe we cherish lest its very soul perishN
Where mirth is crime and love a snareM
-
Who now shall lead us what God shall heed usG
As we lie in the hell our hands have wonO
For us are no rulers but fools and befoolersG
The great are fallen the wise men goneP
-
I heard men saying Leave tears and prayingA
The sharp knife heedeth not the sheepQ
Are we not stronger than the rich and the wrongerM
When day breaks over dreams and sleepQ
-
Come shoulder to shoulder ere the world grows olderM
Help lies in nought but thee and meH
Hope is before us the long years that bore usG
Bore leaders more than men may beH
-
Let dead hearts tarry and trade and marryH
And trembling nurse their dreams of mirthR
While we the living our lives are givingA
To bring the bright new world to birthR
-
Come shoulder to shoulder ere Earth grows olderM
The Cause spreads over land and seaH
Now the world shaketh and fear awakethR
And joy at last for thee and meH
