SIR OZANA LE CURE HARDY SIR GALAHAD SIR BORS DE GANYSA
-
SIR OZANAB
-
All day long and every dayC
From Christmas Eve to Whit SundayC
Within that Chapel aisle I layC
And no man came a nearD
-
Naked to the waist was IE
And deep within my breast did lieE
Though no man any blood could spyE
The truncheon of a spearD
-
No meat did ever pass my lipsA
Those days Alas the sunlight slipsA
From off the gilded parclose dipsA
And night comes on apaceA
-
My arms lay back behind my headF
Over my raised up knees was spreadF
A samite cloth of white and redF
A rose lay on my faceA
-
Many a time I tried to shoutG
But as in dream of battle routG
My frozen speech would not well outG
I could not even weepH
-
With inward sigh I see the sunB
Fade off the pillars one by oneB
My heart faints when the day is doneB
Because I cannot sleepH
-
Sometimes strange thoughts pass through my headF
Not like a tomb is this my bedF
Yet oft I think that I am deadF
That round my tomb is writI
-
'Ozana of the hardy heartJ
Knight of the Table RoundK
Pray for his soul lords of your partJ
A true knight he was found '-
Ah me I cannot fathom it He sleepsA
-
SIR GALAHADL
-
All day long and every dayC
Till his madness pass'd awayC
I watch'd Ozana as he layC
Within the gilded screenB
-
All my singing moved him notM
As I sung my heart grew hotM
With the thought of LauncelotM
Far away I weenB
-
So I went a little spaceA
From out the chapel bathed my faceA
In the stream that runs apaceA
By the churchyard wallN
-
There I pluck'd a faint wild roseA
Hard by where the linden growsA
Sighing over silver rowsA
Of the lilies tallN
-
I laid the flower across his mouthO
The sparkling drops seem'd good for drouthO
He smiled turn'd round towards the southO
Held up a golden tressA
-
The light smote on it from the westP
He drew the covering from his breastP
Against his heart that hair he prestP
Death him soon will blessA
-
SIR BORSA
-
I enter'd by the western doorQ
I saw a knight's helm lying thereR
I raised my eyes from off the floorQ
And caught the gleaming of his hairR
-
I stept full softly up to himS
I laid my chin upon his headF
I felt him smile my eyes did swimS
I was so glad he was not deadF
-
I heard Ozana murmur lowT
'There comes no sleep nor any love '-
But Galahad stoop'd and kiss'd his browU
He shiver'd I saw his pale lips moveV
-
SIR OZANAB
-
There comes no sleep nor any loveW
Ah me I shiver with delightX
I am so weak I cannot moveV
God move me to thee dear to nightX
Christ help I have but little witI
My life went wrong I see it writI
-
'Ozana of the hardy heartJ
Knight of the Table RoundK
Pray for his soul lords on your partJ
A good knight he was found '-
-
Now I begin to fathom it He diesA
-
SIR BORSA
-
Galahad sits dreamilyT
What strange things may his eyes seeA
Great blue eyes fix'd full on meA
On his soul Lord have mercyA
-
SIR GALAHADL
-
Ozana shall I pray for theeA
Her cheek is laid to thineB
No long time hence also I seeA
Thy wasted fingers twineB
-
Within the tresses of her hairR
That shineth gloriouslyA
Thinly outspread in the clear airR
Against the jasper seaA
