My lady seems of ivoryA
Forehead straight nose and cheeks that beA
Hollow'd a little mournfullyB
Beata mea DominaC
-
Her forehead overshadow'd muchD
By bows of hair has a wave suchD
As God was good to make for meA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Not greatly long my lady's hairE
Nor yet with yellow colour fairE
But thick and crisp d wonderfullyA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Heavy to make the pale face sadF
And dark but dead as though it hadF
Been forged by God most wonderfullyA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Of some strange metal thread by threadG
To stand out from my lady's headG
Not moving much to tangle meA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Beneath her brows the lids fall slowB
The lashes a clear shadow throwB
Where I would wish my lips to beA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Her great eyes standing far apartH
Draw up some memory from her heartH
And gaze out very mournfullyB
Beata mea DominaC
-
So beautiful and kind they areI
But most times looking out afarI
Waiting for something not for meA
Beata mea DominaC
-
I wonder if the lashes longJ
Are those that do her bright eyes wrongJ
For always half tears seem to beA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Lurking below the underlidH
Darkening the place where they lie hidH
If they should rise and flow for meA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Her full lips being made to kissK
Curl'd up and pensive each one isL
This makes me faint to stand and seeA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Her lips are not contented nowM
Because the hours pass so slowB
Towards a sweet time pray for meA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Nay hold thy peace for who can tellB
But this at least I know full wellB
Her lips are parted longinglyA
Beata mea DominaC
-
So passionate and swift to moveN
To pluck at any flying loveO
That I grow faint to stand and seeA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Yea there beneath them is her chinP
So fine and round it were a sinP
To feel no weaker when I seeA
Beata mea DominaC
-
God's dealings for with so much careE
And troublous faint lines wrought in thereE
He finishes her face for meA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Of her long neck what shall I sayQ
What things about her body's swayQ
Like a knight's pennon or slim treeA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Set gently waving in the windH
Or her long hands that I may findH
On some day sweet to move o'er meA
Beata mea DominaC
-
God pity me though if I miss'dH
The telling how along her wristH
The veins creep dying languidlyA
Beata mea DominaC
-
Inside her tender palm and thinP
Now give me pardon dear whereinP
My voice is weak and vexes theeA
Beata mea DominaC
-
All men that see her any timeR
I charge you straightly in this rhymeR
What and wherever you may beA
Beata mea DominaC
-
To kneel before her as for meA
I choke and grow quite faint to seeA
My lady moving graciouslyA
Beata mea DominaC
