Gunnar's Howe Above The House At Lithend Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFGHEIJKJLMNONO OPBPEOJOJO BQRQOLOLSL

Ye who have come o er the seaA
to behold this grey minster of landsB
Whose floor is the tomb of time pastC
and whose walls by the toil of dead handsB
Show pictures amidst of the ruinD
of deeds that have overpast deathE
Stay by this tomb in a tombF
to ask of who lieth beneathG
Ah the world changeth too soonH
that ye stand there with unbated breathE
As I name him that Gunnar of oldI
who erst in the haymaking tideJ
Felt all the land fragrant and freshK
as amidst of the edges he diedJ
Too swiftly fame fadeth awayL
if ye tremble not lest once againM
The grey mound should open and show himN
glad eyed without grudging or painO
Little labour methinks to behold himN
but the tale teller laboured in vainO
-
Little labour for ears that may hearkenO
to hear his death conquering songP
Till the heart swells to think of the gladnessB
undying that overcame wrongP
O young is the world yet meseemethE
and the hope of it flourishing greenO
When the words of a man unrememberedJ
so bridge all the days that have beenO
As we look round about on the landJ
that these nine hundred years he hath seenO
-
Dusk is abroad on the grassB
of this valley amidst of the hillQ
Dusk that shall never be darkR
till the dawn hard on midnight shall fillQ
The trench under Eyiafell s snowO
and the grey plain the sea meeteth greyL
White high aloft hangs the moonO
that no dark night shall brighten ere dayL
For here day and night toileth the summerS
lest deedless his time pass awayL
