So swift the hours are movingA
Unto the time unprovedB
Farewell my love unlovingA
Farewell my love belovedC
-
What are we not glad heartedD
Is there no deed to doE
Is not all fear departedD
And Spring tide blossomed newE
-
The sails swell out above usF
The sea ridge lifts the keelG
For They have called who love usF
Who bear the gifts that healG
-
A crown for him that winnethH
A bed for him that failsI
A glory that beginnethH
In never dying talesI
-
Yet now the pain is endedD
And the glad hand grips the swordJ
Look on thy life amendedD
And deal out due awardJ
-
Think of the thankless morningA
The gifts of noon unusedK
Think of the eve of scorningA
The night of prayer refusedK
-
And yet The life before itL
Dost thou remember aughtL
What terrors shivered o'er itL
Born from the hell of thoughtL
-
And this that cometh afterM
How dost thou live and dareN
To meet its empty laughterM
To face its friendless careN
-
In fear didst thou desireM
At peace dost thou regretL
The wasting of the fireM
The tangling of the netL
-
Love came and gat fair greetingA
Love went and left no shameO
Shall both the twilights meetingA
The summer sunlight blameO
-
What cometh love and goethH
Like the dark night's empty windL
Because thy folly sowethH
The harvest of the blindL
-
Hast thou slain love with sorrowP
Have thy tears quenched the sunQ
Nay even yet tomorrowP
Shall many a deed be doneQ
-
This twilight sea thou sailestL
Has it grown dim and blackA
For that wherein thou failestL
And the story of thy lackA
-
Peace then for thine old grievingA
Was born of Earth the kindL
And the sad tale thou art leavingA
Earth shall not leave behindL
-
Peace for that joy abidingA
Whereon thou layest holdL
Earth keepeth for a tidingA
For the day when this is oldL
-
Thy soul and life shall perishR
And thy name as last night's windL
But Earth the deed shall cherishR
That thou today shalt findL
-
And all thy joy and sorrowP
So great but yesterdayL
So light a thing tomorrowP
Shall never pass awayL
-
Lo lo the dawn blink yonderM
The sunrise draweth nighS
And men forget to wonderM
That they were born to dieS
-
Then praise the deed that wendethH
Through the daylight and the mirthH
The tale that never endethH
Whoso may dwell on earthH
