IA
-
Parent to those whose infant daysB
No human parent knowC
To thee O Charity the praiseB
Of filial love shall flowC
-
Base want and vice a foe to allD
Round us their snares had thrownE
Had not thy arm at pity's callD
Embrac'd us for thine ownE
-
O blest the land where all to TheeF
A tender homage payG
Where indigence and wealth agreeF
To venerate thy swayG
-
That land the wrath of Heaven may spareH
When ruthless nations groanE
Her guarded orphan's grateful prayerH
May rise to mercy's throneE
-
Parent to those whose infant daysB
No human parent knowC
To Thee O Charity the praiseB
Of filial love shall flowC

IIA
-
We have no parent but our GodI
Yet will we not in grief despairH
For He this vale of sorrow trodI
To make the desolate his careH
-
The voice of innocence and youthJ
To Thee meek Saviour may ascendK
Thou God of Tenderness and TruthJ
Of Infancy Thou art the FriendK
-
Thro tears that fill the orphan's eyeA
With humble confidence we seeF
Calamity an holy tieA
That binds our helpless tribe to TheeF
-
For charity angelic powerL
Thy fav'rite delegate belowC
Makes industry our peaceful dowerM
A guard from indigence and woeC
-
We have no parent but our GodI
In Him we trust who reigns aboveN
Children He blest when here He trodI
And we are children of his loveN
