Hymn To Humility Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCB DDEFFE GGHIIH

Of all the Christian virtues chiefA
With modest charms and mild reliefA
Most apt to heal the wounds of pride and spleenB
To thee humility I bendC
O let me feel thou art my friendC
Rule thou my bosom as its gentle queenB
-
'Tis thine benignly to repressD
All proud conceit all vain excessD
To give the chasten'd mind its proper toneE
To make it keep in sightF
The worth of others with delightF
And never look too fondly on its ownE
-
Teach me with active zeal to wakeG
At nature's sigh for pity's sakeG
When pride in dreams of apathy will nodH
Still guided by thy Christian breathI
Keep me thro' scenes of life and deathI
To mortals kind and dutiful to GodH
