Hymn On Charity Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IGIGGJGJ

Nor faith nor hope whate'er their forceA
Can aught avail the soulB
Should charity not guide its courseA
To glory's heavenly goalB
The songs of wisdom tho' they soarC
To notes that seraphs swellD
If she be wanting are no moreC
Than folly's tinkling bellD
-
A thousand shapes as bright as mornE
Sweet Charity assumesF
And all the hues of Heaven adornE
Her variegated plumesF
'Tis she with consolation's voiceG
That stills affliction's stormH
She bids despairing want rejoiceG
In bounty's radiant formH
-
But with what semblance is she seenI
That more her power endearsG
Than when with mild instruction's mienI
Her infant train she rearsG
Then she the earth bound spirit liftsG
Above the valley's clodJ
Then gives the richest of her giftsG
The knowledge of her GodJ
