Rhyme Scheme: AAB CAC ADE FGA HAI AJK LAE MAN OAA PQR SAT UOV

are the desolate dark weeksA
when nature in its barrennessA
equals the stupidity of manB
-
The year plunges into nightC
and the heart plungesA
lower than nightC
-
to an empty windswept placeA
without sun stars or moonD
but a peculiar light as of thoughtE
-
that spins a dark fireF
whirling upon itself untilG
in the cold it kindlesA
-
to make a man aware of nothingH
that he knows not lonelinessA
itself Not a ghost butI
-
would be embraced emptinessA
despair TheyJ
whine and whistle amongK
-
the flashes and booms of warL
houses of whose roomsA
the cold is greater than can be thoughtE
-
the people gone that we lovedM
the beds lying empty the couchesA
damp the chairs unusedN
-
Hide it away somewhereO
out of mind let it get to rootsA
and grow unrelated to jealousA
-
ears and eyes for itselfP
In this mine they come to dig allQ
Is this the counterfoil to sweetestR
-
music The source of poetry thatS
seeing the clock stopped saysA
The clock has stoppedT
-
that ticked yesterday so wellU
and hears the sound of lakewaterO
splashing that is now stoneV
