Light Hearted Author Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEAAFGHHBADD IJKLMNOPAMAQKARSD AKAADKKKAKKK SAHTTRTUQVK DKA

The birches are mad with green pointsA
the wood's edge is burning with their greenB
burning seething No no noC
The birches are opening their leaves oneD
by one Their delicate leaves unfold coldE
and separate one by one Slender tasselsA
hang swaying from the delicate branch tipsA
Oh I cannot say it There is no wordF
Black is split at once into flowers InG
every bog and ditch flares ofH
small fire white flowers AghH
the birches are mad mad with their greenB
The world is gone torn into shredsA
with this blessing What have I left undoneD
that I should have undertakenD
-
O my brother you redfaced living manI
ignorant stupid whose feet are uponJ
this same dirt that I touch and eatK
We are alone in this terror aloneL
face to face on this road you and IM
wrapped by this flameN
Let the polished plows stay idleO
their gloss already on the black soilP
But that face of yoursA
Answer me I will clutch you IM
will hug you grip you I will poke my faceA
into your face and force you to see meQ
Take me in your arms tell me the commonestK
thing that is in your mind to sayA
say anything I will understand youR
It is the madness of the birch leaves openingS
cold one by oneD
-
My rooms will receive me But my roomsA
are no longer sweet spaces where comfortK
is ready to wait on me with its crumbsA
A darkness has brushed them The massA
of yellow tulips in the bowl is shrunkenD
Every familiar object is changed and dwarfedK
I am shaken broken against a mightK
that splits comfort blows apartK
my careful partitions crushes my houseA
and leaves me with shrinking heartK
and startled empty eyes peering outK
into a cold worldK
-
In the spring I would be drunk In the springS
I would be drunk and lie forgetting all thingsA
Your face Give me your face Yang Kue FeiH
your hands your lips to drinkT
Give me your wrists to drinkT
I drag you I am drowned in you youR
overwhelm me DrinkT
Save me The shad bush is in the edgeU
of the clearing The yards in a furyQ
of lilac blossoms are driving me mad with terrorV
Drink and lie forgetting the worldK
-
And coldly the birch leaves are opening one by oneD
Coldly I observe them and wait for the endK
And it endsA
