O World of many worlds O life of livesA
What centre hast thou Where am IB
O whither is it thy fierce onrush drivesC
Fight I or drift or stand or flyB
-
-
The loud machinery spins points work in touchD
Wheels whirl in systems zone in zoneE
Myself having sometime moved with suchD
Would strike a centre of mine ownE
-
-
Lend hand O Fate for I am down am lostF
Fainting by violence of the DanceG
Ah thanks I stand the floor is crossedF
And I am where but few advanceG
-
-
I see men far below me where they swarmH
Haply above me be it soI
Does space to compass points conformH
And can we say a star stands high or lowI
-
-
Not more complex the millions of the starsJ
Than are the hearts of mortal brothersK
As far remote as Neptune from small MarsJ
Is one man's nature from another'sK
-
-
But all hold course unalterably fixedL
They follow destinies foreplannedL
I envy not these lives in their faith unmixedL
I would not step with such a bandL
-
To be a meteor fast eccentric loneE
Lawless in passage through all spheresM
Warning the earth of wider ways unknownE
And rousing men with heavenly fearsM
-
-
This is the track reserved for my endeavourN
Spanless the erring way I wendL
Blackness of darkness is my meed for everN
And barren plunging without endL
-
-
O glorious fear Those other wandering soulsO
High burning through that outer bourneP
Are lights unto themselves Fair aureolesO
Self radiated these are wornP
-
-
And when in after times those stars returnQ
And strike once more earth's horizonR
They gather many satellites asternR
For they are greater than this system's SunR
