Girl At Midnight Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJ KLMBNOPQRSTU VWXY ZAT

Then walk the floor or twist upon your bedA
While bullets cold and blind rush backward from the target s eyeB
And say I will not dream that dream again I will not dreamC
Of long spent whispers vanishing down corridorsD
That turn through buildings I have never knownE
The snap of rubber gloves the tall child blindF
Who calls my name the stained sheetsG
Of another girl And then a low bellH
Sounding through shadows in the coldI
Disturbs the screen that is my mind in sleepJ
-
-
Your face is never clear You always standK
In charcoal doorways in the dark Part of your faceL
is gone You say Just to be through with this damned worldM
Contagious fogs blow in Christ we could dieB
The way deer sometimes do their antlers lockedN
Rotting in snowO
And I can never speakP
But have I ever told the truth to youQ
I did not ask for this a new disease threads inR
I want your lips upon my lips your mouthS
Upon my breasts again again again againT
I want the morning filled with sunU
-
-
But I must dream once more of cities burned awayV
Corrupted wood and silence on the piersW
Love is a sickroom with the roof half goneX
Where nights go down in a continual rainY
-
-
Heart heart I do not live The lie of peaceZ
Echoes to no end the clocks are deadA
What we have had we will not have againT
