God forbids lazinessA
But no Poverty has taught me to beB
Malnutrition snacks I do not wantC
I'm kind to my problemD
Offer me rather heavy foodE
That fall straight under my belly's bottomD
Sweet my mouth isF
It is right my ears are sharpG
To attenuate me appetiteH
See my eyes are not blackI
But poverty taught me to beB
To be haughty of things that endureJ
My eyes fickle lightning boltsK
They strike abreast your goodiesL
Do not beat laziness out of a mortal meB
Dear fellowM
I am honest my hands are cleanN
I did not intendO
I did not mean to hurt youP
But poverty taught me to beB
Miserable and a tax collector from yourQ
Salary balance in the purse or walletR
Look at me brotherS
Please sister drool your piteous eyes at meB
Poverty has cracked completely the buttocks of my clothesT
On the streets daily employed me to collect tithesT
From your earnings of the monthU
Please all these not meB
But poverty taught me to beB
