Why in my heart O GriefA
Dost thou in beauty hideB
Dead is my well contentC
And buried deep my prideB
Cold are their stones belovedD
To hand and sideB
-
The shadows of even are goneE
Shut are the day's clear flowersF
Now have her birds left muteG
Their singing bowersF
Lone shall we be we twainH
In the night hoursF
-
Thou with thy cheek on mineI
And dark hair loosed shall seeJ
Take the far stars for fruitG
The cypress treeJ
And in the yew's blackK
Shall the moon beJ
-
We will tell no old talesL
Nor heed if in wandering airM
Die a lost song of loveN
Or the once fairM
Still as well water beJ
The thoughts we shareM
-
And while the ghosts keepO
Tryst from chill sepulchresL
Dreamless our gaze shall sleepO
And sealed our earsL
Heart unto heart will speakP
Without tearsL
-
O thy veiled lovely faceL
Joy's strange disguiseL
Shall be the last to fadeQ
From these rapt eyesL
Ere the first dart of daybreakR
Pierce the skiesL
