The River Of Rivers In Connecticut Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC ADE FGH IGJ KGL MNO

There is a great river this side of StygiaA
Before one comes to the first black cataractsB
And trees that lack the intelligence of treesC
-
In that river far this side of StygiaA
The mere flowing of the water is a gayetyD
Flashing and flashing in the sun On its banksE
-
No shadow walks The river is fatefulF
Like the last one But there is no ferrymanG
He could not bend against its propelling forceH
-
It is not to be seen beneath the appearancesI
That tell of it The steeple at FarmingtonG
Stands glistening and Haddam shines and swaysJ
-
It is the third commonness with light and airK
A curriculum a vigor a local abstractionG
Call it one more a river an unnamed flowingL
-
Space filled reflecting the seasons the folk loreM
Of each of the senses call it again and againN
The river that flows nowhere like a seaO
