No Possum, No Sop, No Taters Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AB CD EF GC HI JK LM NM MK OP QC RR

He is not here the old sunA
As absent as if we were asleepB
-
The field is frozen The leaves are dryC
Bad is final in this lightD
-
In this bleak air the broken stalksE
Have arms without hands They have trunksF
-
Without legs or for that without headsG
They have heads in which a captive cryC
-
Is merely the moving of a tongueH
Snow sparkles like eyesight falling to earthI
-
Like seeing fallen brightly awayJ
The leaves hop scraping on the groundK
-
It is deep January The sky is hardL
The stalks are firmly rooted in iceM
-
It is in this solitude a syllableN
Out of these gawky flitteringsM
-
Intones its single emptinessM
The savagest hollow of winter soundK
-
It is here in this bad that we reachO
The last purity of the knowledge of goodP
-
The crow looks rusty as he rises upQ
Bright is the malice in his eyeC
-
One joins him there for companyR
But at a distance in another treeR
