| Its pillars gleamed in endless light | D |
| Yet echoes rang through hollow walls | E |
| A hunger gnawed beneath the halls | E |

| He drank the wine he broke the bread | F |
| But thirst and hunger grew instead | F |
| Each banquet left him wanting more | G |
| Each feast a wound each gift a sore | G |

| He sailed across the boundless seas | H |
| To claim the lands the skies the trees | H |
| Yet every shore though vast though wide | I |
| Could never calm the storm inside | I |

| Unsatisfy his constant name | J |
| A fire no riches could ever tame | J |
| The more he gained the less he kept | K |
| The more he laughed the more he wept | K |

| And when at last his crown was worn | L |
| Its weight was heavy sharp with thorn | L |
| For kingdoms fall and thrones decay | M |
| But hunger never fades away | M |
