Where is David O God's peopleA
Saul has passed the good and greatB
Mourn for Saul the first anointedC
Head and shoulders o'er the stateB
-
He was found among the ProphetsD
Judge and monarch merged in oneE
But the wars of Saul are endedC
And the works of Saul are doneE
-
Where is David ruddy shepherdF
God's boy king for IsraelA
Mystic ardent dowered with beautyG
Singing where still waters dwellH
-
Prophet find that destined minstrelA
Wandering on the range to dayI
Driving sheep and crooning softlyG
Psalms that cannot pass awayI
-
David waits the prophet answersJ
In a black notorious denK
In a cave upon the borderL
With four hundred outlaw menK
-
He is fair and loved of womenE
Mighty hearted born to singM
Thieving weeping erring prayingM
Radiant royal rebel kingM
-
He will come with harp and psaltryL
Quell his troop of convict swineN
Quell his mad dog roaring rascalsO
Witching them with words divineN
-
They will ram the walls of ZionE
They will win us Salem hillP
All for David Shepherd DavidQ
Singing like a mountain rillP
