The Prairie Battlements Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDCEFGF GHGIJCEC KLGLMCDCNFEF

To Edgar Lee Masters with great respectA
-
-
Here upon the prairieB
Is our ancestral hallC
Agate is the domeD
Cornelian the wallC
Ghouls are in the cellarE
But fays upon the stairsF
And here lived old King Silver DreamsG
Always at his prayersF
-
Here lived grey Queen Silver DreamsG
Always singing psalmsH
And haughty Grandma Silver DreamsG
Throned with folded palmsI
Here played cousin AliceJ
Her soul was best of allC
And every fairy loved herE
In our ancestral hallC
-
Alice has a prairie graveK
The King and Queen lie lowL
And aged Grandma Silver DreamsG
Four tombstones in a rowL
But still in snow and sunshineM
Stands our ancestral hallC
Agate is the domeD
Cornelian the wallC
And legends walk aboutN
And proverbs with proud airsF
Ghouls are in the cellarE
But fays upon the stairsF
