Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEDGCGCCCG HIHIJKLKCMCCCM GNDNOPQPRCCCR

Down cellar said the cricketA
I saw a ball last nightB
In honor of a ladyC
Whose wings were pearly whiteB
The breath of bitter weatherD
Had smashed the cellar paneE
We entertained a drift of leavesF
And then of snow and rainE
But we were dressed for winterD
And loved to hear it blowG
In honor of the ladyC
Who makes potatoes growG
Our guest the Irish ladyC
The tiny Irish ladyC
The fairy Irish ladyC
That makes potatoes growG
-
Potatoes were the waitersH
Potatoes were the bandI
Potatoes were the dancersH
Kicking up the sandI
Their legs were old burnt matchesJ
Their arms were just the sameK
They jigged and whirled and scrambledL
In honor of the dameK
The noble Irish ladyC
Who makes potatoes danceM
The witty Irish ladyC
The saucy Irish ladyC
The laughing Irish ladyC
Who makes potatoes pranceM
-
There was just one sweet potatoG
He was golden brown and slimN
The lady loved his figureD
She danced all night with himN
Alas he wasn't IrishO
So when she flew awayP
They threw him in the coal binQ
And there he is to dayP
Where they cannot hear his sighsR
His weeping for the ladyC
The beauteous Irish ladyC
The radiant Irish ladyC
Who gives potatoes eyesR
