The Alchemist's Petition Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCC DEEFFG

Thou wilt not sentence to eternal lifeA
My soul that prays that it may sleep and sleepB
Like a white statue dropped into the deepB
Covered with sand covered with chests of goldC
And slave bones tossed from many a pirate holdC
-
But for this prayer thou wilt not bind in HellD
My soul that shook with love for Fame and TruthE
In such unquenched desires consumed his youthE
Let me turn dust like dead leaves in the FallF
Or wood that lights an hour your knightly hallF
AmenG
