i Sweetheart Spring iA
-
Our Sweetheart Spring came softlyB
Her gliding hands were fireC
Her lilac breath upon our cheeksD
Consumed us with desireC
-
By her our God began to buildE
Began to sow and tillF
He laid foundations in our lovesG
For every good and illF
We asked Him not for blessingH
We asked Him not for painI
Still to the just and unjustJ
He sent His fire and rainI
-
-
i Sweetheart Summer iA
-
We prayed not yet she came to usK
The silken shining oneL
On Jacob's noble ladderC
Descended from the sunL
She reached our town of Every DayM
Our dry and dusty sodN
We prayed not yet she brought to usK
The misty wine of GodN
-
-
i Sweetheart Autumn iA
-
The woods were black and crimsonL
The frost bit flowers were deadO
But Sweetheart Indian Summer cameP
With love winds round her headO
While fruits God given and splendidQ
Belonged to her domainI
Baskets of corn in perfect earR
And grapes with purple stainI
The treacherous winds persuaded herC
Spring Love was in the woodS
Altho' the end of love was hersT
Fruition MotherhoodS
-
-
i Sweetheart Winter iA
-
We had done naught of serviceK
To win our Maker's praiseU
Yet Sweetheart Winter came to usK
To gild our waning daysU
Down Jacob's winding ladderC
She came from Sunshine TownV
Bearing the sparkling morningsW
And clouds of silver brownV
Bearing the seeds of SpringtimeX
Upon her snowy seasY
Bearing the fairy star flowersT
For baby Christmas treesY
