Prologue To Rhymes To Be Traded For Bread Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDEFGDGHICIHJKJ CLAL

Even the shrewd and bitterA
Gnarled by the old world's greedB
Cherished the stranger softlyC
Seeing his utter needB
Shelter and patient hearingD
These were their gifts to himE
To the minstrel chanting beggingD
As the sunset fire grew dimE
The rich said you are welcomeF
Yea even the rich were goodG
How strange that in their feastingD
His songs were understoodG
The doors of the poor were openH
The poor who had wandered tooI
Who slept with never a roof treeC
Under the wind and dewI
The minds of the poor were openH
There dark mistrust was deadJ
They loved his wizard storiesK
They bought his rhymes with breadJ
-
Those were his days of gloryC
Of faith in his fellow menL
Therefore to day the singerA
Turns beggar once againL
