A Rhyme About An Electrical Advertising Sign Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEFFGG HHIIJJAAJJKK

I look on the specious electrical lightA
Blatant mechanical crawling and whiteA
Wickedly red or malignantly greenB
Like the beads of a young Senegambian queenB
Showing while millions of souls hurry onC
The virtues of collars from sunset till dawnD
By dart or by tumble of whirl within whirlE
Starting new fads for the shame weary girlE
By maggoty motions in sickening lineF
Proclaiming a hat or a soup or a wineF
While there far above the steep cliffs of the streetG
The stars sing a message elusive and sweetG
-
Now man cannot rest in his pleasure and toilH
His clumsy contraptions of coil upon coilH
Till the thing he invents in its use and its rangeI
Leads on to the marvellous CHANGE BEYOND CHANGEI
Some day this old Broadway shall climb to the skiesJ
As a ribbon of cloud on a soul wind shall riseJ
And we shall be lifted rejoicing by nightA
Till we join with the planets who choir their delightA
The signs in the street and the signs in the skiesJ
Shall make a new Zodiac guiding the wiseJ
And Broadway make one with that marvellous stairK
That is climbed by the rainbow clad spirits of prayerK
