Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDDCC EEFBGFFGG HHIIFJJFF KKDDJLLMM

Reason and Folly and Beauty they sayA
Went on a party of pleasure one dayA
Folly playedB
Around the maidB
The bells of his cap rung merrily outC
While Reason tookD
To his sermon bookD
Oh which was the pleasanter no one need doubtC
Which was the pleasanter no one need doubtC
-
Beauty who likes to be thought very sageE
Turned for a moment to Reason's dull pageE
Till Folly saidF
Look here sweet maidB
The sight of his cap brought her back to herselfG
While Reason readF
His leaves of leadF
With no one to mind him poor sensible elfG
No no one to mind him poor sensible elfG
-
Then Reason grew jealous of Folly's gay capH
Had he that on he her heart might entrapH
There it isI
Quoth Folly old quizI
Folly was always good natured 'tis saidF
Under the sunJ
There's no such funJ
As Reason with my cap and bells on his headF
Reason with my cap and bells on his headF
-
But Reason the head dress so awkwardly woreK
That Beauty now liked him still less than beforeK
While Folly tookD
Old Reason's bookD
And twisted the leaves in a cap of such tonJ
That Beauty vowedL
Tho' not aloudL
She liked him still better in that than his ownM
Yes liked him still better in that than his ownM
