at a Cathedral ServiceA
-
THAT from this bright believing bandB
An outcast I should beC
That faiths by which my comrades standB
Seem fantasies to meC
And mirage mists their Shining LandB
Is a drear destinyC
-
Why thus my soul should be consignedD
To infelicityD
Why always I must feel as blindD
To sights my brethren seeC
Why joys they've found I cannot findD
Abides a mysteryC
-
Since heart of mine knows not that easeE
Which they know since it beC
That He who breathes All's Well to theseE
Breathes no All's Well to meC
My lack might move their sympathiesE
And Christian charityC
-
I am like a gazer who should markF
An inland companyC
Standing upfingered with Hark harkF
The glorious distant seaC
And feel Alas 'tis but yon darkF
And wind swept pine to meC
-
Yet I would bear my shortcomingsG
With meet tranquillityC
But for the charge that blessed thingsG
I'd liefer have unbeC
-
O doth a bird deprived of wingsG
Go earth bound wilfullyC
-
Enough As yet disquiet clingsG
About us Rest shall weC
