Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCCCDDCCCCCEEFDG GHHDICCJJKKLLKKKKKKK KRight rigorous and so forth Humbled | A |
By cares and mourning tost and tumbled | A |
Before your Ladyships Tom Fool | B |
Knowing above the rest you rule | B |
Most lamentably sets his case | C |
With a bold heart and saucy face | C |
Sans shoes or stocking coat or breeches | C |

His body worn like an old farthing | D |
The angry spirit just a parting | D |
His credit rotten and his purse | C |
As empty as a cobbler's curse | C |
His Poems too unsold that's worse | C |
In short between confounded crosses | C |
Patrons all vexed and former losses | C |
Sure as a gun he cannot fail | E |
Next week to warble in a jail | E |
Which jail to folks not very sanguine | F |
Is just as good or worse than hanging | D |
Though in the first vain hopes flatter | G |
But Hope's quite strangled by the latter | G |
Thus is a poor rhyming rascal treated | H |
Fairly or rather fouly cheated | H |
Of all the goods from wit accruing | D |
Wit that's synonomous with ruin | I |
Then take it in your head piece Ladies | C |
To set up a poor Bard whose trade is | C |
Low fallen enough in conscience pity | J |
The maker of this magic ditty | J |
And turn your wheel once more in haste | K |
To see him on the summit placed | K |
For well you wot that woes 'od rot 'em | L |
Have long since stretched him at the bottom | L |
Where he who erst fine lyrics gabbled | K |
With mire and filth was sorely dabbled | K |
So pitifully pelted that | K |
He looks like any drowned rat | K |
O Justice Justice take his part | K |
O lift him on thy lofty Cart | K |
Magnific Fame And let Fat Plenty | K |
Marry one Poet out of Twenty | K |
