Males perverse schooled to condemnA
Women by your witless lawsB
Though forsooth you are prime causeC
Of that which you blame in themA
-
If with unexampled careD
You solicit their disdainE
Will your fair words ease their painE
When you ruthless set the snareD
-
Their resistance you impugnF
Then maintain with gravityG
That it was mere levityG
Made you dare to importuneF
-
What more elevating sightH
Than of man with logic crassI
Who with hot breath fogs the glassI
Then laments it is not brightH
-
Scorn and favor favor scornF
What you will result the sameJ
Treat you ill and earn your blameJ
Love you well be left forlornF
-
Scant regard will she possessK
Who with caution wends her wayL
Is held thankless for her nayL
And as wanton for her yesK
-
What must be the rare capriceM
Of the quarry you engageN
If she flees she wakes your rageN
If she yields her charms surceaseM
-
Who shall bear the heavier blameJ
When remorse the twain enthrallsM
She who for the asking fallsM
He who asking brings to shameJ
-
Whose the guilt where to beginF
Though both yield to passion's swayL
She who weakly sins for payL
He who strong yet pays for SinF
-
Then why stare ye if we proveO
That the guilt lies at your gateP
Either love those you createP
Or create those you can loveQ
-
To solicitation truceM
Then sire with some show of rightH
You may mock the hapless plightH
Or the creatures of your useM
