The Orphan Maid Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDEFGHIJEJEKLKI IMNMOKOIPEQIRERE

November's hail cloud drifts awayA
November's sunbeam wanB
Looks coldly on the castle greyA
When forth comes Lady AnneC
The orphan by the oak was setD
Her arms her feet were bareE
The hail drops had not melted yetD
Amid her raven hairE
'And dame ' she said 'by all the tiesF
That child and mother knowG
Aid one who never knew these joysH
Relieve an orphan's woe 'I
The lady said 'An orphan's stateJ
Is hard and sad to bearE
Yet worse the widow'd mother's fateJ
Who mourns both lord and heirE
'Twelve times the rolling year has spedK
Since when from vengeance wildL
Of fierce Strathallan's Chief I fledK
Forth's eddies whelm'd my child 'I
'Twelve times the year its course has borne 'I
The wandering maid repliedM
'Since fishers on Saint Bridget's mornN
Drew nets on Campsie sideM
'Saint Bridget sent no scaly spoilO
An infant wellnigh deadK
They saved and rear'd in want and toilO
To beg from you her bred 'I
That orphan maid the lady kiss'dP
'My husband's looks you bearE
Saint Bridget and her morn be bless'dQ
You are his widow's heir 'I
They've robed that maid so poor and paleR
In silk and sandals rareE
And pearls for drops of frozen hailR
Are glistening in her hairE
