The Dart, The Beams, The Sting, So Strong I Prove Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFGHH

The dart the beams the sting so strong I proveA
Which my chief part doth pass through parch and tieB
That of the stroke the heat and knot of loveC
Wounded inflamed knit to the death I dieB
-
Hardened and cold far from affection's snareD
Was once my mind my temper and my lifeE
While I that sight desire and vow forbareD
Which to avoid quench lose nought boasted strifeE
-
Yet will not I grief ashes thraldom changeF
For others' ease their fruit or free estateG
So brave a shot dear fire and beauty strangeF
Bid me pierce burn and bind long time and lateG
And in my wounds my flames and bonds I findH
A salve fresh air and bright contented mindH

Sir Philip Sidney
