Lucky I didn't overturnA
This path has been potholedB
I just made it with no broken bonesC
My being has turned to stoneD
Putting my body and soul at warE
I have been walking this roadF
It's been windingG
-
I have run this mile over and overH
I have yet to make it to the podiumI
I keep trying never giving upJ
The war inside me gets nastierH
I just want out don't know howK
-
I wake up every morning hopefulL
Wash up without fail the clean start to a new dayM
The mirror shows me blacker and darkerH
And so day in day out my life darkensC
That light I desperately need so hard to seeC
Because everyone loves to blow it outN
-
It's this blazing heat inside my headO
It bothers me all the timeP
Could it be the star I wonderH
I keep holding back I dare not open that black boxC
For momma told me black is evilL
So goes the fallacy keeping me four hundred years downQ
-
I want to be free oh Lord I crave some freedomI
Yes for my freedom I am ready to fightR
I dream of bloodless battlegroundsC
Of black angels in white garbS
Blessing this never ending riverH
Of love so flawlessC
-
I know oh great LordT
I know you will help me breakU
These chains that imprison meC
In self destruction and beliefV
That my failure lies within the dark of my skinW
Let the beauty of your creation shine overH
Let me feel the strength of my blacknessC
And break out of this dominationX
