Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHA IJKKLMNA OPQRSTUUV WCMXYZEA2 YB2Y C2D2UE2E2 YE2E2F2YHTE2E2How I wish this world had eyes | A |
For it to see my people in that darkness | B |
To see them struggling and toiling | C |
For a morsel to numb the gnawing hunger | D |
To see them gorged by some mystical pestilence | E |
Whole generations drowning in inimical waters | F |
In a cannonade of man made mire | G |
How long shall we justify the pain | H |
Rise Oh Africa rise | A |
- | |
Stolen chained and flogged we cried | I |
Summoning the one great creator we knew | J |
The one who punished us for the wrong we did | K |
The same who blessed us for the good we did | K |
But today we still cry for we don t understand | L |
Why Oh creator Why and for what indiscretions | M |
Do we endure such long punishments | N |
Rise Oh Lion of Hearts rise | A |
- | |
We sang our very own songs | O |
Songs of joy songs of life | P |
For the rain that showered our arduous sweat | Q |
For the harvests that brought surfeit | R |
For good health he always showered us with plenty | S |
Where then did go the spirit of Africa | T |
If you are asleep it s been too long a sleep | U |
Your children are being ravished by a morose satrap | U |
Rise our greatness rise Oh king of the soil | V |
- | |
Your children cry their souls thirst | W |
Cool their aching throats craving | C |
Caking in the depths of the salty oceans | M |
Let them rise with the winds | X |
The storms that ravage the better world | Y |
Let their anger be head hold your spears high | Z |
Let them fight for their innocence | E |
Rise oh Land of Glory sanitize your salted wounds | A2 |
- | |
For centuries they have toiled creatures of servility | Y |
Working and slaving for a world beyond their reach | B2 |
A world that disappears with every drip of their sweat | Y |
- | |
Tears trickle down into a perfidious abyss | C2 |
The last they know of a world free and fair | D2 |
These tears they cry keep cutting deep | U |
Corroding and maiming the souls of their souls | E2 |
Oh Mamma Africa do you hear their mournful devotions | E2 |
- | |
They have ingested every culture so imposed | Y |
Withstood every experiment to better the human race | E2 |
Mesmerized the world with their resilience | E2 |
But deep down their souls cry revere | F2 |
To their wounded pride a lost identity | Y |
They refuse to die silently to cry in vain | H |
This is your time your opera | T |
Yours to touch with your rustic incandescence | E2 |
Rise Oh Africa Rise | E2 |
