The city of Kings MwenemutapaA
So long infected by envious storiesB
It has stood for centuriesB
This piece of magnificent African ArchitectureC
Whose greatness history has deniedD
The mark of a civilization destroyedE
-
Wasn t it the center of a KingdomF
The heart of an ideology so humbleG
Of a governance to its subjects democraticH
Human coexistence that was peacefulG
Source of the gold that graced the PharaohsI
The wisdom that humankind has ignoredJ
-
Far from the walls of stoneK
Spiritual eyes tearL
Sour hearts burnM
As drifter winds blowN
Demonic flames engulfO
A hopeless nation in colonial feverC
-
Gone are the days of graceP
When Mwari the Creator the High mostQ
Could talk to the walls the wind and the treesB
He could hear the drum beat the songsR
The foot stomping the clap and tap danceS
His tears would flow thirst they quenchedQ
-
Those were the days of faithT
When food trees could giveU
To a traveler in a jungle lostQ
When lions could lead humansV
To a destination desiredQ
This is the God that then lived withinW
-
The great House of StoneK
The Empire that flourishedQ
In peace ever known to manX
Where strangers were goldQ
Food they would not finishY
Just passersby who deserved charityQ
-
The House of Kings thatQ
Ignored principles for the goodQ
Of human kind so selfishY
They used to share with their kinW
For they knew strangers were forgetfulG
They winced and away strangers took their bedsZ
-
Isn t there a road back to that placeP
A way to get back in timeA2
To the Empire that shoneK
To the hearts that caredQ
Can WE JUST dig them upA
The bones that carried the weightQ
-
They gathered the stonesB2
One by one they laid the foundationC2
Day by day they raised the wallsD2
Their dreams they locked in stoneK
That for years an Empire would standQ
In stone its strength would be castQ
-
Do we undo their toil and sweatQ
Do we forget the blood that spiltQ
For the weakness of our heartsE2
For the selfishness of our mindsF2
Do we let greed devour our goodnessG2
Do we for a penny sell our soulsH2
