Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDE EEFGF HIJKL KKIKK MNOPH

What a joy it isA
When into the past you lookB
Walking through clouds of dustC
Seeing a blessing of the earth so vastD
That her day at best was always a fastD
Reliving the African motherly dayE
-
Which one day would be her dayE
When everyday was her toil dayE
What day would my heart hailF
When every day through hell I drove herG
An African Mother s Day a lifetime sorrow trailF
-
What s in a day for a special womanH
Whose life is sequestered by ungrateful manI
Can t I in a day let her sorrows flow downJ
And let the sonorous tears flood the river of painK
For just a day in a year she can remember the dawnL
-
Take her down her memory laneK
She sees it all through the sauntered paneK
The steam from her tears she has to fanI
For the tears of joy and pain she cannot fainK
On an African Mother s day to reignK
-
Say hail to the African QueenM
For she has eras of sorrow weatheredN
From slavery to Jim Crow from Apartheid to AIDSO
Without notice she continues to standP
Happy Mother s mother AfricanH
