The Death Of Adonis Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDEBED FFDDDDGGH

Fragments and combinedA
-
This is the lamentation songB
For Adonis woe for Adonis woeC
Thus wailed Aphrodite in anguish throeD
As she strove to hold him back from deathE
'Let thine heart not faint O love Be strongB
O me it burns me thy failing breathE
It kindles through all my being a fireD
My heart is aflame with despairing desire '-
She calls to her Eros of golden wingF
She bids him steep in the ice cold springF
Fine linen and lay on Adonis' browD
'O love let its coolness revive thee nowD
Vain vain his eyes see me no moreD
They are fixed in a gaze upon Hades' doorD
They close he sleeps not the sleep of the deadG
Hush stir not a pebble with heedless treadG
No no this is death Now remaineth to meH
No sweetness on earth nor honey nor bee '-
