The Rose: To Ellen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH BIBJ

The sportive sylphs that course the airA
Unseen on wings that twilight weavesB
Around the opening rose repairA
And breathe sweet incense o'er its leavesB
-
With sparkling cups of bubbles madeC
They catch the ruddy beams of dayD
And steal the rainbow's sweetest shadeC
Their blushing favorite to arrayD
-
They gather gems with sunbeams brightE
From floating clouds and falling showersF
They rob Aurora's locks of lightE
To grace their own fair queen of flowersF
-
Thus thus adorned the speaking RoseG
Becomes a token fit to tellH
Of things that words can ne'er discloseG
And nought but this reveal so wellH
-
Then take my flower and let its leavesB
Beside thy heart be cherished nearI
While that confiding heart receivesB
The thought it whispers to thine earJ
