The Rainbow Bridge Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHAIJJ KKLLIIMMNN| Love and Hope and Youth together | A |
| Travelling once in stormy weather | A |
| Met a deep and gloomy tide | B |
| Flowing swift and dark and wide | B |
| 'Twas named the river of Despair | C |
| And many a wreck was floating there | C |
| The urchins paused with faces grave | D |
| Debating how to cross the wave | D |
| When lo the curtain of the storm | E |
| Was severed and the rainbow's form | E |
| Stood against the parting cloud | F |
| Emblem of peace on trouble's shroud | F |
| Hope pointed to the signal flying | G |
| And the three their shoulders plying | G |
| O'er the stream the light arch threw | H |
| A rainbow bridge of loveliest hue | H |
| Now laughing as they tripped it o'er | A |
| They gayly sought the other shore | I |
| But soon the hills began to frown | J |
| And the bright sun went darkly down | J |
| Though their step was light and fleet | K |
| The rainbow vanished 'neath their feet | K |
| And down they went the giddy things | L |
| But Hope put forth his ready wings | L |
| And clinging Love and Youth he bore | I |
| In triumph to the other shore | I |
| But ne'er I ween should mortals deem | M |
| On rainbow bridge to cross a stream | M |
| Unless bright buoyant Hope is nigh | N |
| And light with Love and Youth they fly | N |
