The Broken Heart Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF CGCG HCHI

Oh think not with love's soft tokenA
Or music my heart to thrillB
For its strings its strings are brokenA
And the chords would fain be stillB
-
Oh think not to waken the measureC
Of joy on a ruined luteD
Think not to waken pleasureC
Where grief sits mourning and muteD
-
The pearls that gleam in the billowE
But darken the gloom of the deepF
And laughter plants the pillowE
With thorns where sorrow would sleepF
-
The gems that gleam on the fingerC
Of her who is sleeping and coldG
But wring the hearts that lingerC
And dream of the love they toldG
-
My bosom is but a graveH
My breast a voiceless choirC
Speak not to the echoless caveH
Touch not the broken lyreI
