Good And Evil Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJGK LMLM NLNL EOEO PQPQ| When man from Paradise was driven | A |
| And thorns around his pathway sprung | B |
| Sweet Mercy wandering there from heaven | A |
| Upon those thorns bright roses flung | B |
| - | |
| Aye and as Justice cursed the ground | C |
| She stole behind unheard unseen | D |
| And while the curses fell around | C |
| She scattered seeds of joy between | D |
| - | |
| And thus as evils sprung to light | E |
| And spread like weeds their poisons wide | F |
| Fresh healing plants came blooming bright | E |
| And stood to check them side by side | F |
| - | |
| And now though Eden blooms afar | G |
| And man is exiled from its bowers | H |
| Still mercy steals through bolt and bar | G |
| And brings away its choicest flowers | H |
| - | |
| The very toil the thorns of care | I |
| That Heaven in wrath for sin imposes | J |
| By mercy changed no curses are | G |
| One brings us rest the other roses | K |
| - | |
| Thus joy is linked with every woe | L |
| Each cup of ill its pleasure brings | M |
| The rose is crushed but then you know | L |
| The sweeter fragrance from it springs | M |
| - | |
| If justice throw athwart our way | N |
| A deepening eve of fear and sorrow | L |
| Hope like the moon reflects the ray | N |
| Of the bright sun that shines to morrow | L |
| - | |
| And mercy gilds with stars the night | E |
| Sweet music plays through weeping willows | O |
| The blackest cave with gems is bright | E |
| And pearls illume the ocean billows | O |
| - | |
| The very grave though clouds may rise | P |
| And shroud it o'er with midnight gloom | Q |
| Unfolds to faith the deep blue skies | P |
| That glorious shine beyond the tomb | Q |
