Good And Evil Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJGK LMLM NLNL EOEO PQPQ

When man from Paradise was drivenA
And thorns around his pathway sprungB
Sweet Mercy wandering there from heavenA
Upon those thorns bright roses flungB
-
Aye and as Justice cursed the groundC
She stole behind unheard unseenD
And while the curses fell aroundC
She scattered seeds of joy betweenD
-
And thus as evils sprung to lightE
And spread like weeds their poisons wideF
Fresh healing plants came blooming brightE
And stood to check them side by sideF
-
And now though Eden blooms afarG
And man is exiled from its bowersH
Still mercy steals through bolt and barG
And brings away its choicest flowersH
-
The very toil the thorns of careI
That Heaven in wrath for sin imposesJ
By mercy changed no curses areG
One brings us rest the other rosesK
-
Thus joy is linked with every woeL
Each cup of ill its pleasure bringsM
The rose is crushed but then you knowL
The sweeter fragrance from it springsM
-
If justice throw athwart our wayN
A deepening eve of fear and sorrowL
Hope like the moon reflects the rayN
Of the bright sun that shines to morrowL
-
And mercy gilds with stars the nightE
Sweet music plays through weeping willowsO
The blackest cave with gems is brightE
And pearls illume the ocean billowsO
-
The very grave though clouds may riseP
And shroud it o'er with midnight gloomQ
Unfolds to faith the deep blue skiesP
That glorious shine beyond the tombQ
