The Song Of The Beasts Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCDDCBEEFGGFGHIHAJA KLLMKNOMCOCON

Sung on one night in the cities in the darknessA
-
Come away Come awayB
Ye are sober and dull through the common dayB
But now it is nightC
It is shameful night and God is asleepD
Have you not felt the quick fires that creepD
Through the hungry flesh and the lust of delightC
And hot secrets of dreams that day cannot sayB
The house is dumbE
The night calls out to you Come ah comeE
Down the dim stairs through the creaking doorF
Naked crawling on hands and feetG
It is meet it is meetG
Ye are men no longer but less and moreF
Beast and God Down the lampless streetG
By little black ways and secret placesH
In the darkness and mireI
Faint laughter around and evil facesH
By the star glint seen ah follow with usA
For the darkness whispers a blind desireJ
And the fingers of night are amorousA
Keep close as we speedK
Though mad whispers woo you and hot hands clingL
And the touch and the smell of bare flesh stingL
Soft flank by your flank and side brushing sideM
TO NIGHT never heedK
Unswerving and silent follow with meN
Till the city ends sheerO
And the crook'd lanes open wideM
Out of the voices of nightC
Beyond lust and fearO
To the level waters of moonlightC
To the level waters quiet and clearO
To the black unresting plains of the calling seaN
