Rhyme Scheme: ABBCC DEBFBGHIH JBBKK DLBLBGHIH

The Priests within the TempleA
She was wrinkled and huge and hideous She was our MotherB
She was lustful and lewd but a God we had none otherB
In the day She was hidden and dumb but at nightfall moaned in the shadeC
We shuddered and gave Her Her will in the darkness we were afraidC
-
The People withoutD
She sent us painE
And we bowed before HerB
She smiled againF
And bade us adore HerB
She solaced our woeG
And soothed our sighingH
And what shall we doI
Now God is dyingH
-
The Priests withinJ
She was hungry and ate our children how should we stay HerB
She took our young men and our maidens ours to obey HerB
We were loathed and mocked and reviled of all nations that was our prideK
She fed us protected us loved us and killed us now She has diedK
-
The People withoutD
She was so strongL
But death is strongerB
She ruled us longL
But Time is longerB
She solaced our woeG
And soothed our sighingH
And what shall we doI
Now God is dyingH
