Dead Men's Love Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDEE FGFGHHIJ KFEKFLLMM

There was a damned successful PoetA
There was a Woman like the SunB
And they were dead They did not know itC
They did not know their time was doneB
They did not know his hymnsD
Were silence and her limbsD
That had served Love so wellE
Dust and a filthy smellE
-
And so one day as ever of oldF
Hands out they hurried knee to kneeG
On fire to cling and kiss and holdF
And in the other's eyes to seeG
Each his own tiny faceH
And in that long embraceH
Feel lip and breast grow warmI
To breast and lip and armJ
-
So knee to knee they sped againK
And laugh to laugh they ran I'm toldF
Across the streets of HellE
And thenK
They suddenly felt the wind blow coldF
And knew so closely pressedL
Chill air on lip and breastL
And with a sick surpriseM
The emptiness of eyesM
