Ante Aram Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABA CAB ACA CAC ACA CAC A

Before thy shrine I kneel an unknown worshipperA
Chanting strange hymns to thee and sorrowful litaniesB
Incense of dirges prayers that are as holy myrrhA
-
Ah goddess on thy throne of tears and faint low sighsC
Weary at last to theeward come the feet that errA
And empty hearts grown tired of the world's vanitiesB
-
How fair this cool deep silence to a wandererA
Deaf with the roar of winds along the open skiesC
Sweet after sting and bitter kiss of sea waterA
-
The pale Lethean wine within thy chalicesC
I come before thee I too tired wandererA
To heed the horror of the shrine the distant criesC
-
And evil whispers in the gloom or the swift whirrA
Of terrible wings I least of all thy votariesC
With a faint hope to see the scented darkness stirA
-
And parting frame within its quiet mysteriesC
One face with lips than autumn lilies tendererA
And voice more sweet than the far plaint of viols isC
-
Or the soft moan of any grey eyed lute playerA
