Ode (ii) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDE FGHI JKL MNOP QRST UVWX YDZA2 FB2BA2 C2D2KE2 AF2G2H2 I2F2G2H2

Written on the FIRST of DECEMBERA
-
-
Tho' now no more the musing earB
Delights to listen to the breezeC
That lingers o'er the green wood shadeD
I love thee Winter wellE
-
Sweet are the harmonies of SpringF
Sweet is the summer's evening galeG
Pleasant the autumnal winds that shakeH
The many colour'd groveI
-
And pleasant to the sober'd soulJ
The silence of the wintry sceneK
When Nature shrouds her in her tranceL
-
Not undelightful now to roamM
The wild heath sparkling on the sightN
Not undelightful now to paceO
The forest's ample roundsP
-
And see the spangled branches shineQ
And mark the moss of many a hueR
That varies the old tree's brown barkS
Or o'er the grey stone spreadsT
-
The cluster'd berries claim the eyeU
O'er the bright hollies gay green leavesV
The ivy round the leafless oakW
Clasps its full foliage closeX
-
So VIRTUE diffident of strengthY
Clings to RELIGION'S firmer aidD
And by RELIGION'S aid upheldZ
Endures calamityA2
-
Nor void of beauties now the springF
Whose waters hid from summer sunB2
Have sooth'd the thirsty pilgrim's earB
With more than melodyA2
-
The green moss shines with icey glareC2
The long grass bends its spear like formD2
And lovely is the silvery sceneK
When faint the sunbeams smileE2
-
Reflection too may love the hourA
When Nature hid in Winter's graveF2
No more expands the bursting budG2
Or bids the flowret bloomH2
-
For Nature soon in Spring's best charmsI2
Shall rise reviv'd from Winter's graveF2
Again expand the bursting budG2
And bid the flowret bloomH2
