| Of patterned silks and old brocade | A |
| Small faded rags in memory rich | B |
| Sewn each to each with feather stitch | B |
| But if you stare aghast perhaps | C |
| At certain muddied khaki scraps | C |
| Or trophy fragments of field grey | D |
| Clotted and torn a grim display | D |
| That never decked white sheets before | E |
| Blame my dazed head blame bloody war | E |
