Down in the mud I layA
Tired out by my long dayA
Of five damned days and nightsB
Five sleepless days and nightsB
Dream snatched and set me whereC
The dungeon of DespairC
Looms over Desolate SeaD
Frowning and threatening meD
With aspect high and steepE
A most malignant keepE
My foes that lay withinF
Shouted and made a dinF
Hooted and grinned and criedG
Today we've killed your prideG
Today your ardour endsH
We've murdered all your friendsH
We've undermined by stealthI
Your happiness and your healthI
We've taken away your hopeJ
Now you may droop and mopeJ
To misery and to DeathK
But with my spear of FaithL
Stout as an oaken rafterM
With my round shield of laughterM
With my sharp tongue like swordN
That speaks a bitter wordO
I stood beneath the wallP
And there defied them allP
The stones they cast I caughtQ
And alchemized with thoughtR
Into such lumps of goldS
As dreaming misers holdS
The boiling oil they threwT
Fell in a shower of dewT
Refreshing me the spearsU
Flew harmless by my earsU
Struck quivering in the sodV
There like the prophet's rodV
Put leaves out took firm rootW
And bore me instant fruitW
My foes were all astoundedX
Dumbstricken and confoundedX
Gaping in a long rowY
They dared not thrust nor throwY
Thus then I climbed a steepE
Buttress and won the keepE
And laughed and proudly blewT
My horn Stand to Stand toT
Wake up sir Here's a newT
Attack Stand to Stand toT
