Outlaws Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GAGA AAAA HIHI JKJK BABA LMLM

Owls they whinney down the nightA
Bats go zigzag byB
Ambushed in shadow out of sightA
The outlaws lieB
-
Old gods shrunk to shadows thereC
In the wet woods they lurkD
Greedy of human stuff to snareC
In webs of murkD
-
Look up else your eye must drownE
In a moving sea of blackF
Between the tree tops upside downE
Goes the sky trackF
-
Look up else your feet will strayG
Towards that dim ambuscadeA
Where spider like they catch their preyG
In nets of shadeA
-
For though creeds whirl away in dustA
Faith fails and men forgetA
These aged gods of fright and lustA
Cling to life yetA
-
Old gods almost dead malignH
Starved of their ancient duesI
Incense and fruit fire blood and wineH
And an unclean museI
-
Banished to woods and a sickly moonJ
Shrunk to mere bogey thingsK
Who spoke with thunder once at noonJ
To prostrate kingsK
-
With thunder from an open skyB
To peasant tyrant priestA
Bowing in fear with a dazzled eyeB
Towards the EastA
-
Proud gods humbled sunk so lowL
Living with ghosts and ghoulsM
And ghosts of ghosts and last year's snowL
And dead toadstoolsM
