Nebuchadnezzar's Fall Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD AEAE FGFG HIHI

Frowning over the riddle that Daniel toldA
Down through the mist hung garden below a feeble sunB
The King of Persia walked oh the chilling coldA
His mind was webbed with a grey shroud vapour spunB
-
Here for the pride of his soaring eagle heartC
Here for his great hand searching the skies for foodD
Here for his courtship of Heaven's high stars he shall smartC
Nebuchadnezzar shall fall crawl be subduedD
-
Hot sun struck through the vapour leaf strewn mouldA
Breathed sweet decay old Earth called for her childE
Mist drew off from his mind Sun scattered goldA
Warmth came and earthy motives fresh and wildE
-
Down on his knees he sinks the stiff necked KingF
Stoops and kneels and grovels chin to the mudG
Out from his changed heart flutter on startled wingF
The fancy birds of his Pride Honour KinglihoodG
-
He crawls he grunts he is beast like frogs and snailsH
His diet and grass and water with hand for cupI
He herds with brutes that have hooves and horns and tailsH
He roars in his anger he scratches he looks not upI
