Rhyme Scheme: ABC DDEEFFCCCCGGHHCCIIJJ KLMNNOOPP QQDRSTS

August Officer previously reportedA
died of wounds now reported wounded Graves Captain RB
Royal Welch FusiliersC
-
-
But I was dead an hour or moreD
I woke when I'd already passed the doorD
That Cerberus guards and half way down the roadE
To Lethe as an old Greek signpost showedE
Above me on my stretcher swinging byF
I saw new stars in the subterrene skyF
A Cross a Rose in bloom a Cage with barsC
And a barbed Arrow feathered in fine starsC
I felt the vapours of forgetfulnessC
Float in my nostrils Oh may Heaven blessC
Dear Lady Proserpine who saw me wakeG
And stooping over me for Henna's sakeG
Cleared my poor buzzing head and sent me backH
Breathless with leaping heart along the trackH
After me roared and clattered angry hostsC
Of demons heroes and policeman ghostsC
Life life I can't be dead I won't be deadI
Damned if I'll die for any one I saidI
Cerberus stands and grins above me nowJ
Wearing three heads lion and lynx and sowJ
Quick a revolver But my Webley's goneK
Stolen No bombs no knifeL
The crowd swarms onM
Bellows hurls stones Not even a honeyed sopN
Nothing Good Cerberus Good dog but stopN
Stay A great luminous thought I do believeO
There's still some morphia that I bought on leaveO
Then swiftly Cerberus' wide mouths I cramP
With army biscuit smeared with ration jamP
-
And sleep lurks in the luscious plum and appleQ
He crunches swallows stiffens seems to grappleQ
With the all powerful poppy then a snoreD
A crash the beast blocks up the corridorR
With monstrous hairy carcase red and dunS
Too late for I've sped throughT
O Life O SunS
